The Gift of a New Day

Every morning is a fresh gift from God. Psalm 118:24 reminds us: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” When our eyes open to a new day, it’s not just another routine-it’s an opportunity to live with purpose, to glorify God, and to use the time He’s given us wisely.

Personally, it is a serious struggle to wake up early, y’all. The alarm goes off at 4:30 and the snooze button is calling me to press it…. over and over again. Until finally I’m pulling myself out of bed at the last minute, just to scramble to get out the door for a busy workday. What I have realized is that this sets the tone for my whole entire day. When I can see the benefit of or experience the result of rising early to spend that one-on-one time with God before the craziness of the day, it becomes a necessity, not a hassle, a blessing, not a curse. The “renewal” of our minds happens daily when our focus is on the Almighty’s future for us, so let’s be purposeful about starting our day out with praise and thanks to God FIRST (Romans 12:2).

Why Early Rising Matters

Waking up early isn’t about being legalistic with time, it’s about being intentional. Early mornings often bring peace, stillness, and clarity before the noise of the world begins. They provide a chance to pray, read God’s Word, and prepare our hearts before stepping into the demands of the day.

Proverbs 8:17 says, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.”

Early mornings create space to seek God diligently. Is there anyone else out there who can testify to the truth behind this concept and the importance of such thinking. Of course we can seek God diligently throughout our days, and I of course do. However, to purposefully have quiet, uninterrupted time to call upon His guidance and His grace, this is different (Jeremiah 33:3).

Small Wins Build Big Victories

Getting up early doesn’t need to feel overwhelming. Start small. Commit to rising just 15 to 20 minutes earlier and use that time for something life-giving: a quiet devotional, journaling, or simply thanking God for another day. These small wins create momentum, helping you grow into bigger victories over time.

This is my testimony – once I tested it and felt the difference those 15 to 20 minutes made, I became hooked and desired a little more time. From 4:30 am to 5:00 am, I am focusing on God and wherever His words lead me within that 30-minutes, I go. So much of what drives this platform, loved one, is to motivate you to be purposeful in building your relationship with the Creator of All things, our Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:19).

Discipline That Leads to Freedom

It may feel easier to hit snooze. When we are committed to God, the enemy hates it. Excuses are lies of satan – always. And there will always be excuses to feed into those lies, anything to keep us from staying disciplined. We must consciously remember what God’s word tells us about the ruler of the world – he comes to kill, steal and destroy what God has for the good (John 10:10). Discipline doesn’t come easy, laziness comes easy. As Christians, we are overcomers. What does that mean in relation to “waking up early to spend quality time with God”? We must fight the temptation to hit snooze and overcome our human desire to sleep for another 30 minutes. I tell you all of this because knowledge is half the battle, friend. If we can stay consciously aware of the lies, we stay prepared to keep moving forward spiritually motivated. This discipline will never let us down and always lead to freedom that is undeniable. Rising early creates freedom later. Instead of rushing out the door, stressed and scattered, you will step into the day calmly and confidently.

Hebrews 12:11 reminds us: “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

When we choose to rise early, we’re not just managing our time, we’re stewarding our lives. Each day is one step closer to eternity. Making the most of our mornings reminds us that life isn’t about chasing the world’s pace, but about walking in God’s purpose.

Ephesians 5:15-16 says: “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”

A Prayer for Early Mornings

“Lord, thank You for the gift of today. Help me to rise with joy, with strength, and with purpose. Remind me that every morning is an invitation to draw closer to You. Give me discipline that leads to peace, and may I honor You in how I begin my day. Amen.”
