📖 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

In honor of those who are hurting in the community of Kerrville, Texas, and the surrounding areas, I would like to bypass my normal encouraging blog post today. Instead, I invite you to come alongside me in praying the below prayer.

This tragedy feels even more personal to me as I prepare to drop off my own son, Christopher, next Monday for a week-long camp—an experience filled with excitement, friends, Christian worship, swimming, playing sports… all the things a 12-year-old boy looks so forward to prior to being dropped off.

As I imagine that moment of dropping him off—safe, joyful, and filled with anticipation—my heart simply can’t fathom the pain of those parents in Kerrville who are now searching for their precious children. Their hopes for a week of fun and laughter have turned into unimaginable heartbreak.

I commit to fervent prayer for these families.
I hope you will join me in this commitment too.

Will You Pray With Me?

Heavenly Father,
We lift up the community of Kerrville and every family, child, and camp leader affected by this devastating flood. Lord, bring comfort where there is grief, strength where there is weakness, and peace where there is chaos.

Wrap Your loving arms around those still searching, still hoping, still mourning. We pray for miracles of rescue and for the assurance that You are near to the brokenhearted.

Prepare our hearts as parents, as believers, and as neighbors to never take for granted the blessings You’ve entrusted to us. Help us carry one another’s burdens in prayer and action.

In Jesus’ holy name,
Amen.

A Personal Reflection

As a mom, I cannot help but place myself in their shoes. And though I can’t physically be there, I know the greatest thing I can offer right now is prayer—and to invite as many people as possible to do the same.

If you would, please take a moment today to pray for:

  • The families searching for their children
  • The safety and protection of the camps in the area
  • The first responders and volunteers risking their safety to help
  • The community of Kerrville as they begin to heal

Thank you for taking this pause with me today. I’ll return next week with my normal encouragement, but for now, let’s lift up Kerrville in prayer and trust that God’s presence is in the midst of this storm.
